Why Pilates
“Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.” –Joseph Pilates
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t in love with fitness and movement. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and what it is capable of.
Having been a dancer from age 3 till present, Pilates was a no brainer for me as a career path and passion. I love how Pilates shapes both the body and the mind. Pilates has taught me to listen to my body… To know when it needs more and when it needs less. Pilates has taught me balance in all forms.
To me Pilates is not just a “workout”, it is a way of life. I teach my clients the method of Pilates but I also focus creating unique programs for each individual client as everyone’s body is so very different. No two bodies are completely alike and I love that. The challenge of figuring out how a person’s body moves and why, the compensations one body makes, how to get someone to perform exercises they once thought they could never do, working through injuries and becoming stronger, teaching people new ways to move and new ways to support their own unique body… I could go on.
The question I am asked the most is “can Pilates help me lose weight.” In reality classical Pilates is not a huge calorie burning method of exercise. However, most people looking to lose weight tend to be less physically active than they should be. When we are inactive we lose muscle tone, strength, flexibility amongst many other serious health related issues.
When you start doing Pilates you will start to improve your flexibility, uniformly develop muscle strength, increase muscle strength and tone, strengthen your core, and also feel really good. Pilates is the best tool to help our bodies prepare for more calorie burning forms of exercise such as running, cycling, swimming and weight lifting. In short Pilates is an effective way to get strong and prevent injuries as you begin to incorporate other methods of exercise into your routine. Pilates should be in everyone’s fitness repertoire.
